The Life Drawing Network Since 2003 in London UK
This global movement was born in East London where Portrait Artist Tony Picanco did what he could to save Figure Drawing from the digital takeover, as this was seriously happening. Because he was independent he had the freedom to re-invent classes, take them where no one had drawn before in Parks, cemeteries, boats, Barges, Churches, 105 pubs, Offices, Bloomsbury Square, Central London, Paris, squats, stunning buildings/locations, Public squares, restaurants, Clubs, TV on BBC, channel 4 and 5, ITV, SKY, Magazines, Radio 4, Facebook commercials, 1st UK Airbnb Art experience/ambassador, Museums, Art galleries, his own Art gallery, In the tube compartments, The London Dome, The guerkins, Sketchy Theatre part of Fringe, Cinema Life Drawing in an East end Cinema, for Years at major London Comedy club, etc... From day 2 he made classes 2/3 cheaper, paid models X3, which changed everything as 1000's more a year later. He influenced in all possible imaginable ways in London before Social Media, which grew to Paris, France, and the US, and when Corvid happened, London and UK classes were the major contributors and still are. It is a fact that most of those organizers, who sometimes can't even draw,, were Tony's students or Network members, whom he fed with ideas and motivation until many of them decided to try their luck. Only about 2 percent succeeded. This helped the finances, health, and family sizes of hundreds of organizers, and the sanity of 100's of thousands if not millions around Europe and later the World. Tony did get hurt doing all this, for one with a foot injury (Achilles Tendonitis) while carrying equipment from one pub or Office to another, which made him take overdoses of painkillers, ran fewer classes, and then Corvid happened. He has managed/CEO'd this global network for 21 years and has been online for about 4, but cannot do regular classes as living between London and Brighton, slowly retiring, giving his knowledge and experience away at his regular online Life Drawing (Tuesday 7.30 pm UK time) and Portrait classes (re-starting later in the year). He is writing a new website to continue helping more people globally benefit from this Life-enhancing Art. Why did he and does he do all this? First, he is a True Buddhist (Nishiren Shoshu) believing in becoming a better person who helps make better Society he belongs to, secondly, in 2003, he managed to finish a grand design project, adding a floor and Smart Flat to his house, by himself, where he kept his sanity, only thanks to Life Drawing once a week with his dear neighbors. He feels that Life Drawing is much more of a therapy than what we've been told and that it can even save lives, he will explain this on his new website with the help of a few supportive doctors and psychologists... Please support him in any possible way to help him continue raising the bar, and if you hear anything negative about him, never believe it. please ignore, as created by nasty competitors in Schools, unis, or established teachers who suffered then, said that they would get rid of him, then benefited later, but never stopped trying to undermine him and his accomplishments. British authorities are keeping an eye on them with an open case against some of them. Let's enjoy all this together, draw in unison,r celebrate the saving and development of this Art accessible to all, that was only reserved for the privileged for thousands of years until 2004. May the creative force be with you! :)
